The Teaching of social sciences is of great significance in the construction of healthy society and in preparing students as vigilant citizens. To meet the various needs and changes in the international and national society, tremendous changes have been made in the social sciences curriculum and textbooks at school level and in methodology of teaching social sciences particularly after the recommendations of the National Policy on Education-1986, National Curriculum Framework-2005, and National Knowledge Commission-2007. The National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE) is constantly working hard to cater new trends and challenges of education. So, for achieving quality in Teacher Education, it has developed a National Curriculum for Teacher education for adoption by all the state Universities in the country.
This book ‘Pedagogy of Social Sciences’ has been designed according to the revised syllabus of methodology of teaching social sciences. The book not only focuses on various innovative methods, approaches and techniques of teaching social sciences but also new trends and concepts of education. It discusses aims and objectives of teaching social sciences in the light of Kothari Commision-1966, National Policy on Education-1986, National Curriculum Framework-2005. The values of teaching social sciences are also discussed.
Practical approach is followed in dealing with the topics such as Academic Standards, Microteaching, Approaches and Methods of Teaching Social Sciences, Activities in Social Science Education, Current and Controversial Issues. Along with discussing various Teaching Learning Resources, it explains how and when to use them with concrete examples. The present book has been written to equip the prospective teachers with the competencies of social science teaching.
