PREFACE
This Book was written in 1995 based on NCERT Syllabus for ETE. Many new developments have come up since then. Now the country has more than 425 DIETs. Several States have their own ETE Syllabi for their DIETs. They have adopted the NCERT Syllabus for ETE. Delhi SCERT has started Semester System-Semesters I and II for ETE 1st Year, and semesters III and IV for ETE 2nd year. Therefore NCERT-ETE Courses for Delhi DIETs have slightly been changed. Faculty of Several DIETs and SCERTs, educationists from NCERT, IASES, Departments of Education and Teacher Training Colleges of various Universities also sent their valuable suggestions for improving this book. Accordingly, this book has been revised. In every chapter, some additions are made. Sample Questions in Science for Upper Primary (ANNEXURE-IV) and Sample Science Activities for Upper Primary (ANNEXURE-V) are added. For each Method of Teaching Science (Chapter 4), one Sample Lesson plan is given (ANNEXURE-I).
All the DIETs and several School Organisations like DAV Institute of In-Service Education, New Delhi, provide In-Service Education to their teachers. For this, they do not have any concrete guidelines. Therefore, in this book Chapter 9 In-Service Teacher Education For Teachers Teaching Science At Upper Primary Level, and ANNEXURE-VI Behavioural Objectives are added.
All these Additions are based on some Research Findings. Now this book may be used as a Pre-Service and In-Service Upper Primary Science Teachers Guide.
This book also covers syllabuses of B.Ed. (Integrated Science) and B.El.Ed. (Pedagogy of Natural Science).
